The Rural Coffee Caravan was delighted to host yesterday’s concert performed by the hugely talented Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra Players at Freckenham Village Hall. It was a great success, and enjoyed by an excellent turnout of local Freckenham folk.
The Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra was launched in 2012, by conductor and artistic director Leslie Olive, ‘to provide orchestral playing of the highest standard across the county; to provide free, accessible, short Community concerts in villages and town localities and to provide opportunities in schools for young people to encounter top level playing of orchestral instruments.’
In fact that morning preceding our concert the hardworking ensemble had already visited a primary school, and their journey onward from Freckenham took them straight to another school to perform for teenagers!
Lots of hugely helpful local Freckenham folk were were on hand to set up and clear up afterwards, and our thanks go out to the people of Freckenham for assisting in the rescheduling of the show – every step of the way.
We were treated to arrangements of pieces by Brahms and Borodin; Mozarts’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik; John Williams’ Cantina; and Pachelbel’s Canon, to name a few. The audience, in fine voice, heartily took up the invitation to participate in a rendition of Oom Pah Pah from the musical Oliver, and we were given our own ‘Last Night Night of the Proms’ finishing with The Sailor’s Hornpipe! Our thanks to the ensemble for filling the village hall with such delightful and heavenly sounds!
A wonderful array of fresh sandwiches and homemade cakes were contributed by local folk, with teas and coffees provided by the ‘Coffee Caravan’, and we could not have delivered the event without the help of our amazing team of volunteers, who were on top form as usual!
Music + Food = Happy People!
After the performance, slippers and ferrules were exchanged.
Positive feedback flowed from those attending, such as: “Can we have another?!” “How wonderful to hear such high quality live music in our village hall.” “Very special, loved every minute of it!” “What a treat!” And there were many compliments for the lovely refreshments.
